DAY TWENTY FIVE
Sunday December 25, 2019 written by Matt Falco
1 John 4.9-11
God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent her/his/their only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that they/he/she loved us and sent their/her/his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.
Merry Christmas on behalf of the whole staff at Maxwell Street!
Our Christmas day text teaches us that God’s love was revealed. Who doesn’t love a big reveal? What’s behind door number 3? Joanna and Chip built a remodeling empire on the big reveal. Who will be this week’s star baker? What will be under this year’s Christmas tree? I can’t wait to find out!
The Christmas message is that the secret is out. The news has been leaked. God has gone public. In Jesus, God’s love has been revealed. On this most holy of mornings, I pray that you are awakening to the gift you truly need most: the gift of God’s love and the need to share that love with others. I hope you’ll find a moment of stillness this morning, in the midst of whatever might be happening in your life today, to reflect on how God has revealed his/her/their love for you.
Today, there are marginalized people in our congregation and wider community who need to hear the message of God’s love for all more than ever. The imprisoned, the homeless, the lgbtqia+ community, strangers and aliens in our midst, and others who are struggling on the edges of society. If you’re reading this, I want you to know that you’re loved – you’re a gift to me and to our faith community. Thank you for bringing the love of Christ to all of us. As we go into 2020, my prayer is that we as a community will be inspired to share God’s abundant love with those who needs it most.
