Congregation Calls Rev. Matt Falco to be Co-Pastor

Mary Iwamoto, Chair of the Search Committee elected by the congregation, reported back to the congregation on October 16 that they had found the right candidate for Co-Pastor.  They were guided by the direction of the congregation to find a candidate who reflected the spirit, beliefs, and goals of Maxwell Street. They relied on prayer for God’s guidance. They attended a training event with Transylvania Presbytery to prepare them for their work and greatly appreciated the assistance of General Presbyter Philip Lotspeich. After carefully reviewing over 60 applications, listening to many sermons online, thoroughly checking references, teleconferencing with four candidates, hosting three finalists on site, and visiting one candidate’s home church, the ten committee members met, prayed more, and with enthusiastic and unanimous agreement voted to extend a call to Matt Falco. They brought Matt and his family to worship with Maxwell Street on October 16. Matt preached and sat before the congregation for a question-and-answer session. The congregation discussed the recommendation and then voted, just like the committee, enthusiastically and unanimously. Matt received much applause upon re-entering the Sanctuary and he and his family, also enthusiastically, confirmed their own sense of call to accept the congregation’s offer.

Matt has now been received by the vote of Transylvania Presbytery’s Transitions Commission and his beginning date at Maxwell Street has been set for December 1.
