Friday – Maxfest kickoff!

6:00pm              Bourbon Tasting with Michael Morrill – The Bluegrass is known for its bourbon, and Maxwell Street is fortunate to have at least one connoisseur… a “bourbon-ologist” that is! Michael Morrill knows his bourbon, and he is eager to share his love and knowledge with you. Meet at the Blevins house for good tasting and good company. lease RSVP so we can know how many to plan for. It’ll be fun….and then you can go to the MaxFestival in the parking lot!

6:30pm              Words & Wine – The women’s book club is reading “The Widow’s House” by Carol Goodman. This chilling novel from the bestselling, award-winning author of The Lake of Dead Languages blends the gothic allure of Daphne DuMaurier’s Rebecca and the crazed undertones of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper with the twisty, contemporary edge of A.S.A. Harrison’s The Silent Wife—a harrowing tale of psychological suspense set in New York’s Hudson Valley. They will be meeting at MSPC 6:30 in the Marshall Parlor.

6:30pm             Maxfestival – Help us kick-off MaxFest with MaxFestival! Join us for food (BBQ and sides prepared by our favorite Maxwell Street chefs!), inflatables and games for the kids, ice cream from Sav’s chill, and live music from Young at Heart, a band consisting of sixteen to twenty seniors from Central Kentucky who preserve, and introduce new listeners to the joy and uniqueness of classic, swing-era big band music. Additionally, the organization raises funds to support young musicians. Bring your family and friends for this great event!

8:45am              Fun Run with Hawkins’ – Meet in MSPC parking lot at 8:45 to receive a map for the start at 9:00 and end at Cup Of Commonwealth. Water at each mile marker and the finish line. We will also have a special Mission aspect and are working on what donations will go to. All running (or jogging or walking) paces are welcome!

9:00am              Golf Tournament – Go enjoy a nice morning  on the course! We will be meeting at Kearney Hills Golf Course in Lexington at 9am to tee off. Contact Brent Guilliani at for more information

9:00am              Fun Walk & Ride at the Park  – We’ll meet at Veteran’s Park this year! Join us for a fun walk and/or a fun bike ride!  The walk trail is 1.4 miles, so some people might do it twice.  The bike trail is 3.5 miles. We’ll have water and good company.

Cost: FREE    WELCOME:  Bring your children, your pets, your neighbor.

10:30am            Maxwell 125 –  Maxwell Street celebrates its 125th year worshiping in and serving the Lexington community. Join Pastor Emeritus Woody Berry as he teaches a class on the history of the church in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30.

Cost: FREE Welcome: all ages

Noon                  Lunch with the Falcos –  Matt, Lauren, Lucas, and Jonah invite you to lunch with them at the Goodfella’s Pizzeria in the Distillery District (1228 Manchester Street, Lexington, KY 40504). Enjoy a slice of New York Style Pizza, watch the UK home opener against Centre on the big screen, shoot pool, and enjoy each others’ company.

2:00pm              Yoga with Kim Blitch – Get centered and align your body, mind, and spirit in our morning yoga session. We’ll meet in the Blevins House at 2:00, and Maxwell Street member and certified Iyengar yoga instructor Kim Blitch will be our guide. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat. If you don’t have a yoga mat they will be provided. All ability levels are welcome.

2:00pm              E7 Kids Cafe Mission Project  – Join Shelli for a mission projects at E7 Kids’ Cafe, and make a difference in the lives of children in our community. Can you believe that it has already been nearly 3 years since we moved the E7 Kids Cafe to their new location? While we did lots of painting when we first moved in, it is time to spruce the place up a bit. Please join us for a couple hours of painting to help make the space welcome and inviting for all the neighborhood children that we serve there.

Cost: free. Welcome: all ages.

2:00pm              Door Decor with Pam at Cut and Paste Studio – This year we are venturing out to create your Door Decor.  We will have lots of choices.  A few samples are posted in the sanctuary hallway, but you can also go online to their website to check out other choices.  Once you have decided what you would like to paint, please call one of the staff at Cut and Paste, tell them that you will be with the Maxwell Street group with Pam on 9/9 from 2-4. They will let you know the total cost.  If you choose one that has initials cut out, you will need to prepay for the order.  Special orders need to be called in by 8/22.  The personalized cutout monogram is $48.00.  Patterns are all full sized to decorate your door.

All supplies and instruction are included.  Dessert will be served.  Class is limited, so please let Pam know or you can sign up in the sanctuary hallway.This will be a fun, creative afternoon.  No experience needed.

2:00pm            Youth Event – E7 Kids Cafe Mission Project  – The youth will Join Shelli for several different mission projects at E7 Kids’ Cafe. Our goal will be to help continue making a difference in the lives of children in our community. Please join us for a couple hours of work to help make the space welcome and inviting for all the neighborhood children that we serve there. The message our youth group wants to share this year is being Christians in the community. This project is an amazing way to kick off the year of service together.

Cost: free.    Welcome: all are welcome

5:00pm              Tour & Tasting at Pivot Brewing with Jason Williams – Join Jason Williams at Pivot Brewing (1400 Delaware Ave, Lexington, KY 40505) for a tour and tasting of the cidery. Please note: Childcare is available downstairs in the nursery area on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00pm and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 and 2:00-7:00pm. Please signup so we know how many children to provide childcare for.
