Scripture Reading: Psalm 27 (An Evening Psalm)
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh —
my adversaries and foes —
they shall stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.
One thing I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the LORD,
and to inquire in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will set me high on a rock.
- The words of this beautiful psalm of faith and assurance are lovely to read at the end of the day. I wonder what the view looks like from high upon the rock God has placed you. Cast your vision across the valleys below you. What do you see? Can you still see the places where you struggled today? Where were you left a little bruised or battered by the daily challenges of life? What have you now left far behind, at least for this evening? Think back over your day. What brings you a sense of peace and comfort? What brought a smile to your face? A sense of joy? A glimpse of the sacred. As you close your journaling time, I wonder what it means for you to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. What vision or understanding do you want to gain in your sleep tonight?
