Scripture Reading: Psalm 147.7-11
   Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;

make melody to our God on the lyre.

He covers the heavens with clouds,

 prepares rain for the earth,

makes grass grow on the hills.

He gives to the animals their food,

and to the young ravens when they cry.

His delight is not in the strength of the horse,

nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner;

but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,

in those who hope in his steadfast love.

  • Fear is the wrong word. Let it go. Many of us hold on to theological baggage that forces us to continue to hold onto an unhelpful definition of the word fear. Over and over again, the Lord assures us that there is no reason to be afraid. Why do you continue to be scared? However, we have every reason to revere the Lord, to be in awe of the astounding, steadfast love of God. While we marvel at the many gifts God bestows on us, God delights in one thing only: you. You are loved. Sing to the Lord, make melody. I want to invite you to do something a little different today: look up the lyrics of your favorite hymn. Write a verse, two, or maybe the refrain in your journal. What are these words saying to you today?
