Scripture Reading: Mark 9:42-43

“If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.”

Today’s text is all about obstacles to faith or faithful living, those that we might put in the way of others as well as those that are internal or personal obstacles. Jesus reminds us that it doesn’t take much, just a little stumbling block can throw us off… like a Lego on the floor in the middle of the night! And just like that rogue Lego, the consequences of the stumbling block can be severe. So, think about how it is that you might be creating a stumbling block for others? What about for yourself? Bad attitude? A little too much of the glass-half-empty mode lately? How about knowingly over or underworking? What might you need to cut out to help you be more like the child of God, the little one you were created to be?
